I have yet to see a Chevron station here. I have used Shell gas. Is Hess gas good? I am referring to their premium gas.

Texaco has the same additive (Techron) as Chevron. Same company.

I've used this technique for my hair shampoo for years now, but never considered it for gas. Makes just as much sense, and I know it works on hair, so why not injectors?

for older vehicles, techron is considered above the rest of bottled fuel injector cleaners IMHO. the chemical makeup is patented and proprietary, the rest on the shelf are generally the same chemical makeup in different branded bottles.

Haven't added fuel additives to any of my Smarts as all are under 8,000 miles. However, I do plan to follow the same routine I've used for years in my Mercedes...
1) Always, ALWAYS fill with premium; Chevron (or Texaco) preferred
2) Add a bottle of Chevron Techron every 5,000 after 30,000 miles
3) Drive at least 40 contiguous miles of highway speed driving a month

You can argue all you want about overkill, but the local MB dealership who does the major work on my 3 gas MB's is amazed at how smooth the engines run. All 3 gas MB's are well over 100K and their emissions are consistently very low.

Based on this experience, I am willing to spend a few extra bucks every 5,000 miles for a really smooth running engine - even if the usual fuel comes with Techron in it.

Cheers,
Jeff
