Fueling

There have been a number of posts about difficulties in getting a complete fuel fillup into the tank (early shutoff).

While perusing the Euro Operators Instructions I came across this:

“{!} If you wish to fill the fuel tank to its max-
imum level, wait 30 seconds after the first
switch-off. Then start filling the tank with
fuel again until the fuel pump nozzle switches
off.”

Thanks, that is what I do and never have a problem getting it full.

True statement. I usually stop before it shuts off, about a gallon early, and let it settle for 15-30 seconds, then start again on the slowest setting. Works well.

I'll have to try that. If I use the slowest setting, it works on most pumps but I have found a few that pump faster and it doesn't work with those. I'll try the wait 30 sec trick.

Would you happen to have the Euro manual available as a PDF or a link? I'd love to read through it.

Don't they give you guys an owners manual with your cars?
All this sort of info can be found in it.
I have noticed on other threads that there seems to be a lack of info over there, you are all treated like mushrooms.

It is a type of pdf that can't be copied except by blocking-out sections and placing them on a blank sheet. The copied "picture" isn't anything that can be further moved or reproduced. Very awkward. The file has no URL. It was emailed to me (for £10 - can't recall how I got onto it).

Our manual is very perfunctory in places, and it seems that smart doesn't want us to know much about the cars.

I think the gas foams up when pumped in the tank,so letting it settle for a moment before carefully topping it off should be best.

Yes, kept in the dark and fed .....

Our manual also doesn't include the oil viscosity recommendations chart or a complete listing of fuses, in addition to the top off info found above.
