Gas filler door lock

When should the gas filler door lock. When I park and lock my car the gas door is not locking. Is this the way it is supposed to be?

I thought when you locked it, the gas door locks. Might be an issue you need to take up with your smart dealer.

That's how it's supposed to work. When ever I lock my smart the gas door on mine locks. How well have you looked at the gas door. Maybe something simple like a obstruction of some sort blocking it from locking all the way.
