Gas grade for smart

Hi! Does anyone here get mid-grade or, do you all get premium? Was surprised to hear mid-grade might be ok. I don't want to mess up my engine and/or sacrifice better performance by using mid-grade but, if it's not THAT big a deal, I'd rather use it to save $. Thanks!

You have opened a huge can of worms here; many, many threads on this topic. Consensus is, for a couple of bucks per tank, stick with premium fuel.

Since you're in PA (east coast fuel) I'd suggest premium. I use mid-grade here in the pacific northwest because of problems I had with my BMW Z4 roadster. It turns out premium fuel up in this corner of the country doesn't meet BMW combustibility standards!

The POINT, my friend, is that premium fuel in the Pacific Northwest is not the same as premium fuel elsewhere.

The Z4 was a premium fuel vehicle as well. Per the factory instructions, I dropped a grade and all the problems I had with hesitation cleared up.

Not sure what that has to do with using mid grade in a smart in PA but it's nice to know if I ever take the Vette to the Pacific Northwest.
