Gas grade for smart

I've run my car on mostly mid grade since day one. 23,000 miles later it still runs great, the plugs show almost no wear other than normal wear and tear. I based my doing this on the fact that Mitsubishi recommends mid grade for their
10:1 compression engines. My mileage averages about 42-45mpg.

Am I communicating that poorly? I suggested premium for the PA driver who isn't subjected to the different performance from the PNW fuels. I only mention the mid-grade which I use because there are reasons one might want to depart from factory recommendations.
