My 1st tank lasted 277 miles. Took 8.062 gallons to fill it back up. So, 34.4 MPG. I drive 60 mile round trip to work and I drive 75 to 80 MPH. I have tired to follow the break-in routine, so no fast starts and I vary the speeds. I don't use manual-mode, unless I want to see what gear I am in. ;)

Same Mileage

I feel much better. I'm reporting the same mileage (35-36mpg) as well. So the rated mpg on the sticker seems to be holding up.

I'd like to do a test on the highway to see if it would get the stated 41 mpg. Does anyone out there know what would be the optimum highway speed for this test? The car cruises effortlessly at 70mph, and quite frankly it is tough to keep it at 60. It keeps on creeping up to 65 and 70. But I'm not sure at what speed the engine starts to be strained, thus lowering mileage.

Thanks

The engine straining is not your problem CD is the enemy as you increase speed more power is required to push aside the air. on mostly secondary roads without much stopping 40-50 will probably give you the best #s. Push over 70 and you will probably go to low 30's mpg

Ran as hard as I could as long as I could on a trip still came up with 37?

My first fill-up produced just shy of 38 MPG. I discount that figure because I don't know how full the tank was from the dealership.
Second fill-up today was 39.5 MPG and the mix of city/highway (40/60)and solo/passenger (60/40) were roughly the same as the first fill-up.
Both fill-ups at COSTCO. Auto mode almost exclusively. Not a lead-foot but definitely not a hyper-miler.

mine came from the dealer with 7/8ths of a tank. i was driving home from the dealer and tried to keep it at 60mph, it does "creep" to 70mph easily. i have cruise control on my '86 190E, you think with all the gizmos on the smart, cruise control could have been thrown in! i think 45-50mph would get the best MPG. sad thing is most roadways have 55-75mph limits, and there are idiots who will always drive 80mph+

This has been covered in several threads too, but.....the fortwo is being sold as a city/commuter car. Not much use for cruise control there. However many of us feel we CAN use it and will shop the aftermarket. The fortwo is fine on the hwy as many new owners will attest.
