Killing Mileage

I'm actually on the verge of taking my baby in to the shop to see if there's anything wrong with it. We do short trips, but our mileage has dropped about 5mpg in our second month of driving, without any change of driving habits or route.

Have had a Passion 442 for 13 days. Just checked mpg and have been getting 36.1 @537 miles on the odometer.

Location:
Typical terrain: FLAT (hilly, steep mountain, sea level, altitude etc..)
Driving style: (hyper-miller, lead foot, sporty, conservative etc..)
Load: (single drive mostly, driver and passenger mostly etc..)
Fuel brand and octane: ( Marathon 93))
Clean air blend: n/a if any (10%, 15% ethanol or MTBE)
Total tank fulls in the average
Tire pressure: (please check this cold as it makes a significant difference in performance and seriously effects MPGs)

still 39 mpg average from new

190.2 miles 4.79 gal 92 octane 39.2 mpg all one up mix of shopping and commuting trips with 50% AC use

Fuel costs at the station last night:
Diesel $4.89 87 $4.06,4.11,4.16, 92 $4.21,4.26...

The fuel economy aspect of this car has exceeded my expectaions still trying to figure out why it is so much fun to drive.

44.2 and holding

Last tank, 7.5 gallons, 331 miles, 44.2mpg
mostly flat, highway driving(55 mph) with a few stops.
marathon 93
single driver
conservative driving(definitely NOT hypermiling)
no clean air blend
tires set at factory reccomendation.

Note: freeway driving(70-75mph) seems to kill my mileage. I keep to the two lane roads and enjoy the scenic view.

Have you been using the A/C more this month? Others have reported a 5 mpg drop for running the air.

almost 54 mpg

So I gave the "hypemiling" a shot this week and returned 53.6 mpg. I drove 386 miles on 7.2 gallons. 60 mpg can easily be achieved if you keep your car between 50 and 55 mph, be smooth as silk and avoid city or rush hour driving.

Note: The same technique resulted in 28.2 mpg in my 2007 Jeep wrangler.

Its funny how you can boast around the office to friends and co-workers about how you "hypermile" But, in reality we were all taught this inadvertently by getting stuck behind a senior citizen on the freeway doing 50 mph. My grandma taught me "hypermiling" 25 yrs ago.

Rather than list them all every time I signed up for My Car Projects.
Gas mileage for 2008 smart fortwo passion at MyCarProjects.net

Overall average: 37.863 MPG
It keeps up with miles per gallon, price per gallon and miles per dollar.

I have a cabrio that I picked up as an orphan on June 3rd.

I never use A/C... EVER... not in my home and not in my car... I prefer fresh air, even if its hot.

I live in NJ - unfortunately.... hate it here... always have... moving to Tampa in 5 years - god willing.

I drive my smart like all the other cars I have owned... I've always been concerned about gas mileage and sending money to the middle east (at least for the last 20 yrs or so) I am very easy on a car... never hitting the gas hard and always letting up on the gas when the light ahead changes to yellow... I creep up to my cruising speed over a long period of time and that frustrates some other drivers behind me... but I am in no rush... I like to get the best mileage I can no matter what I'm driving.

My first tankful I got 40 MPG...
2nd was 42
3rd was 43
4th was 44
5th was 45

** and today ** 52.5 MPG!!!!!

I'm rarely on the highway... 90% of the time I'm just driving around town and back and forth to work.

The car now has 900 miles on it... and I'm getting EXCELLENT mileage!!!!

I have been alternating between 92 octange and 89 - because they don't offer 91 octane at my local Wawa gas station... so I've just been going back and forth between the two.
