Since April: Average 43.5 MPG. Relatively flat terrain (New York to Boston), highway driving 65-70 MPH, 93 Octane fuel, two passengers.

My results...
I've just rolled over 10,000 miles in my Smart Cabriolet. My running average for almost all the mileage is 40 mpg. I say "almost all" because my figures don't account for 2 fill-ups that I forgot to record along the way.
Best tank: 46.3 mpg
Worst tank: 35.3 mpg
I use my Smart mostly to commute to work (50 minutes each way), but it becomes the primary car during the weekends so I put quite a few town miles on it as well. Mostly highway driving in California, but some up and down along the way.
Bottom Line: I'm getting almost double the gas mileage than my previous vehicle on most tanks.

And, I'm envious of your typical 35 MPG. But, only by 2 MPG. OTOH, in my primarily city driving, I'm getting precisely what smart lays claim to for MPG. You're beating it.

That was my average over 6 tanks on my trip from Portland to San Francisco and back.
I'm super pleased, considering I-5 75-80 mph, bumper to bumper from the east bay into SF on Saturday afternoon, hilly SF and Lombard street shoot, drive up Mt Tam after the shoot and the grueling drive home up highway 1, very steep, very curvy, then finished off the last 500 miles on I-5 with more 75-80 mph.
This car performed flawlessly - even taught me a thing or two about the Electronic Stability Program. It was fast, easy to handle, extremely comfortable (~9 hours in the seat yesterday) and very economical. Not to mention courageous!
I am in love with my Lil Monster ever more all the time!

I have about 2800 miles on my Passion, the last 4 fill-up have been 45, 41, 42, 42.
Not much stop and go, short burst on interstate daily, mostly 20 mile round trips to work and the rest going to Walmart, Home Depot and Super Market. No mountains or big hills to climb. The folks in West Virginia call us Flatlanders.
I do not baby the car, I go with the flow of traffic, on the interstate I am usually doing 65 + MPH. Very satisfied.

I've got 3000 miles on mine with no problems to report and avg 38-41 mpg combined with each tank. A lot better than the 12 mpg I was getting with my truck which I no longer own. Best was 48mpg and the worst was 32mpg.

While at home I'd commute 14 miles one way to work, 28 round. I'd average 43mpg. Now while at school my trips roundtrip 6 miles. First mpg rating I got was 39. I'm filling it up tomorrow, we'll see.

I have however noticed a 10mpg (less) difference when I use fuel with ethanol added.

Curious... you quote fuel consumption in miles per gallon, yet quote your commute in kilometers. Is your conversion accurate? Are you measuring in the larger Imperial Gallons? Also, I thought Canada only had diesel smarts so far... I don't believe a gasoline smart is capable of 70 miles per US gallon, except under extremely controlled and limited conditions.
