Holding steady at about 43. Have tried regular and premium (running the tank nearly empty, below 0.0, so there is little mixing) and don't see any statistically measurable results, although others do. I drive lightly, so the additional power of premium would be wasted on me. I will probably use premium once a month, the added cost is not something I mind, and worth it to keep injectors clean.
Oddly my mileage seems a little less on the highway than my commute which involves occasional stoplights and light traffic. I do 60 - 65 on the highway. Seems my car likes a steady 50 -55mph the best based on my Scangauge.
I picked up my car 9/16 I have 1000 miles on it. I have gotten gas 4 times. I usually put gas in when the bars are at at 1/2-3/4 empty.
202 miles /3.996 gal =48.67(93 octane 10 % eth Typ.)
290 miles /7.029 gal =41.26, used manual mode
98 miles /1.988 =49.29 went down only 1 bar, had to check
341.1 miles/ 6.99 gal =48.84(91)
I drive 37 miles 30-45mph then 17 miles highway 60-65 one way with 2 people-total 104 miles a day commute only.~ Five to seven stop light and sign variations. Some hills and curves New hampshire to Mass. Car definately likes 40 mph no speed change the best. I haven't checked the tire pressure.
I guess the ZZR will be sold, I get 48-50 on that.
2nd fillup today mostly highway 55 -65 mph. Shell 87 octane ($3.489). 8.384 gal.,333 miles some up & down hill I70 & I270 as well as Capital Beltway. All manual usage. Next fillup will try 93 Octane. Car was in shop for a month because of Deer hit. Just marked first full week of SmartCar driving. Very pleased.
4,900 miles in nine weeks and have experienced mileage on the freeway as high as 51.3 (65 mph) and 49.2 (75 mph). Open-freeway only driving at 70-75 mph typically returns 42 mpg. In town I've had a couple tanks as low as 25mpg and many in the 32-34 mpg range. I live in a hilly area with 8-15 percent grades so typically in second gear at 3,000 - 3,500 rpm. Chevron premium used almost 100% of time. Sometimes a heavy foot but most often a medium foot.
Re: My post #289, above.
Scanning through this thread makes me feel that either, A) there is something wrong with my car. Or, B) Most everybody is lying about their mileage.
Not wishing to believe the latter, why is it I consistantly score so low? I mean, I can't really complain about getting almost precisely the 33 mpg the manufacturer claims. But, I can be jealous of 40+ (can't I?)
Here's my mileage for just over 3500 miles since 23 June 08 (all miles in greater Cleveland area except one roundtrip to Columbus). This is just the calculated MPG for brevity. Most driving is city, some highway.

See what you get when you come over this way. What is your top tank so far too? Maybe it's just driving around town that is killing you. Idling at lights with the A/C on is a HUGE MPG killer but also very controversial to the good MPG haters. Around your town you should be getting about 38 minimum unless you're down on the beach in the traffic jams. Traffic over there always seems so sparse and well spaced out where you can find your optimum speed and stick with it.
