Only 26.4

Location:Santa Cruz, CA
Typical terrain: flat/90% in town/short distances
Driving style: Average/Manual shift
Load: single
Fuel brand and octane: Union 76 91

1st fill up - 7.56 gal. - 200 miles = 26.3mpg

2nd fill up - 6.9 gal – 182 miles = 26.5mpg

3rd fill up - 4.84 gal - 180 miles = 36.4
This is better but it was almost all hwy miles (To San Francisco and back for the smart Meet and Greet)

I have no explanation for why I am getting such poor mileage. With our prius, I get mpg similar to most average prius owners so I think my driving style is average. I checked the tire pressure and it is at recommended psi.

I drive such little distance ( 382 in 6 weeks) that mileage is not a big concern for me but I get asked frequently what my mileage is and I hate to tell people 26.

So, you are driving in manual mode? Try in D and see if that makes a difference? Also, how many miles have you driven?

The transmission is different and I think you should just hold down the pedal and let the car control the speed. On the 451s dot com website there is a good explanation from a truck driver about the transmission...

My fourth fillup was at 970 miles, three bars left. The lil' guy took in 5.088 gallons after 216 miles from last fillup. That's about 42 mpg. Terrain was about 30% rural winding hills, 50% 4 lane (windy!) hiways and the rest city stop and go. All in manual mode. I kept at 65 mph on the hiway mostly.

Like I've posted before, first fill up for me was 7 gallons and 160 miles, now I'm down 3 bars and have 64 miles ..(= about 21-23 mpg) terrible , I'm driving manual only, maybe I should try auto too. But I'm all stop signs here is San Francisco....I'm going to wait out 2 more fillups and see and then get back to the dealer if it doesn't improve significantly.

just turned 1000 miles
1st tank - 95% highway, 5% city; 240 mi; 7.1 gal; 33.8 mpg (at 80 mph)
2nd tank - 20% highway, 80% city; 235 mi; 6.1 gal; 38.5 mpg
3rd tank - 10% highway, 90% city; 209 mi; 6.9 gal; 34 mpg
4th tank - drove from NJ to DC (consistant at 80) made it on 5/8 of a tank (still working on it) but somewhere around 40/41 mpg

always have a lead foot and drive around 75/80 on the highway, driven manually using stick (hate the paddle shifters!!)
