No Dealer Fix.

There is no fix the dealer can do for a shifter that stucks in Park.

It's a simple procedure to release the shifter so that the car can be driven home or to the dealer. (I will post release procedure later today)

Don't try put it in park again. The whole assy must be replaced.

A2 Jack.

Here's the get me home fix.

Small HOZ strip of tape marks place to put fingers to pull/up console cover.
Same spot on other side. Aprox !0 + 2 clock positions.

Long VERTICAL tape points to position where you will see the YELLOW lever under the left bottom edge of cover.

1. Slip fingers slightly between bottom edge of the cover and the carpet. Pull up and back ,and snap the cover loose, but do pull up over an inch or so. Be gentle. Prop up front of cover about an inch.

2. On the ground, looking in under the cover from the drivers side, you can see a yellow lever just inside the cover. WITH THE KEY ON , Lift this yellow lever while wiggling and pulling the shifter down, out of park. (Wife used a pen to lift the lever).

3, Do not try to use Park again until the whole shifter box has been replaced.

4, Feed back is appreciated so that we can refine this fix.

Good job. That should be in the owner's manual, but since it isn't I'm going to print it out and put it in mine.

Thanks for posting that!

Can you drill a hole into the cover so you can insert a pen (as your wife did) to move the lever without having to remove the cover?

SloPok. Great Idea, as I believe this may be an ongoing problem.

I have been told there will be new boxes for the 2009 cars. I sure hope they can be retrofitted to our "Old" 2008s.

The box looks like a game controller with a joy stick sticking out the top. It's a true sealed "Black Box" and the service people do not know what's inside.

Anyone know if this is common to all production to date, or a specific run of cars?

It seems to be hit or miss. Tough to tell since not everyone posts here. My guys here say that not all cars sold at Smartcenter Bedford have had this problem. This is mentioned at some other websites including Canadian. I find it interesting that Evilution has not weighed in on this. Has this not been seen in the European markets?

Probably for this new fangled North American Shifter. Remember the Euro road show cars, had a different (better, IMO) shifter.
