Heated mirrors stay on all the time!

Just got my car on Saturday! It is in the high 90s here in Texas. Both of my side (rear view) mirrors stay hot ALL the time when the car is on. The manual says: "The exterior rear view mirror heating is switched on automatically at low ambient temperatures."

This would seem to indicate that they should not even be ON now, and that they should be OFF because the temperature here right now is a very HIGH ambient temperature.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Sounds like you might call the dealership Tuesday morning. Not real keen on all this automatic on/off stuff. All it takes is a bit out of place and everything is screwed up!

Is your car parked in the sun when you're feeling the side mirrors? Typical heated sideview mirrors do not get hot to the touch when powered on.

They are on and hot ALL the time, even at night when the temp drops into the 80s. When you reach out to touch them, they definitely are hot (like the glass on an oven door). You don't want to touch them for very long!

Yes, call the dealer first thing tomorrow. At best you could be draining your battery, at worst you could have a short and start a fire.

You could pull fuse 20 to test but it looks like it will also disable the gearshift control

hmmmm.... I've never touched my mirrors. They could be hot all the time and I wouldn't know it. Guess I'll check it out tomorrow.

Is there a manual switch to turn the mirrors on or off ???? All the vehicles i've owned with heated mirrors have a switch to activate on and off power.
