Wow, you got a quick delivery on your car.
Yep... it was built on 08/05/08, got here 08/29/08.

I live about 25 minutes from the port of Dundalk where it came in to the states... my dealer is a smidge closer.

The heat is ON all the time, "unique" to smart

Conversation this AM with Mark (Service/Parts Manager, scAlexandria):
JP: Next time you drive a smart, touch the mirror before turning the ignition on. And touch it again after you've driven a while...
MA: Oh yes, it's unique to smart; they are heated all the time...

So, it is OEM!

That doesn't agree with the manual. Obviously. I still can't imagine that's the way it's intended to be.

And if that is the intention, why?

Hi all - it's 8 am and I just went and ran a test on the mirrors. The car has been garaged since yesterday, garage temp is cool (65-70 degrees). Turned the car on to "1" - so the engine was not running. In less than 2 minutes the mirrors were hot. Turned the car off, the mirrors cooled down in about the same amount of time.
I picked up my car in Feb 08 - so build date seems not to be a factor here - too wide of a range.

Look in all cars built today, the heated mirrors work with either the defroster, or are switched operated. I really will not buy into "Thats OEM" I believe that its a program problem, not a manual "lost in translation" deal. I'm not saying BS to the service guy, but I want to this from SMART Corp. written by them, as to how this it is!!

Regards,
p1nball

Look on the bright side - this is our answer when folks ask "why doesn't it get better gas mileage?" It's those damn heated mirrors dragging on the alternator all the time.

"it's OEM" is something a dealership says when they don't know the answer.
