No Chiefmc that is exactly what many of we Super Duty truck owners did... The greif comes with owners hacking up a factory harnes, (warranty isse with ignorant service departments) and a good quality and location for the switch for each morror.

Motorheads like me that are also Master Electricians have no problem with the modification but it is a pain and serious concern for the typical owner operator who does not want the potential re-sale or warranty grief

Fredvon, I'm capable of implementing once you post the DIY thread! Was looking at the switch bank mod in one of the other threads. Granted those are momentary closure, but coupled with a latching relay... could be interesting!

I'm not a master electrician, so won't be hacking into the wires . I'll wait and see if smart has a fix via software update. It's possible.

Not trying to be a Wise ass here...does this car have a warning tell tale when OAT is at or near freezing?

I am out at Seattle this week and away from my trusty (POS) owners manual. Many cars these days provide OAT on the drivers info center... usually they have a snow flake or Icy Icon when the OAT approaches 32~34F....

One would think logically this would trigger the exterior mirror heat circuit... and if present would be the most elegant Hack

Wonder how adept Kane is a sniffing out the OAT sense signal in the SAM unit

I hate having all sorts of Ideas but zero time to research and experiment... This is the very longest I have owned a new car absolutely Bone Stock...

Fred, the owners manual is right there, on the first page, on the left.

Isn't there air temp in the instrument cluster, or are you talking about something else?

If it is drawing that much current... Then it should be on its own circuit. Put switch in the blank center switch bank.

Why not hook it into the circuit that controls the heated rear window? Seem logical that the two would be wanted at the same time.......

I like that idea, the switch could be mounted on the door inside panel, that would be an easy fix. We would just need to find a presentable switch.

Dave trip seven... SCOA Front page has a owners manual PDF? Must be blind, I do not see it

And IF memory (even with CRS) serves, you posted the DYI on the brake light pulsar mod... Thus you certainly have the skills to pop the inside door mirror cover off...find the heat circuit wire... clip, solder, heat shrink wires and insert a on/off rocker switch... on the hot or ground side...and cut/fab the appropriate sized hole/slot in the inner cover for the switch and test...

The simplicity is there for us to hack....

I seriously doubt we will ever see a software fix...note we are many months into USA deliveries and 09s are immentnet... DRL are possible to be functional with a SAM unit software fix and they fail to even acknowledge that our market could benefit from the OPTION ...weird because as several other markets have DRLs implemented and optional by button sequence manipulation

Part of this thought (no software fix) is predicated on the knowledge that the OAT sense is not run through the SAM but directly applied to the Instrument cluster so no soft ware can detect the 32F~34F OAT and activate the SAM heater relay circuit
