High pitch sqeel from heater fan

I have noticed this a few times, when the car is cold, and air temp is cold the fan tends to make a high pitched sqeeling sound on speeds 1-3 (I don't notice it on 4 maybe becasue the fan it to loud). Once the car warms up, the sound goes away.

Anyone else have this issue?

Yes mine does the same thing if temps are really cold like 10 degrees. Once warmed up it quits making noise.

Does anyone else notice this or should smart take a look at the car?

sounds like if it is a cold air thing, less then 10 degrees out, then there would be more chiming in then just you two. I am down here in Texas, and the coldest so far is 28. But when I got into the car, it was already 34 so did not hear anything of the sort. My guess is the greese that lubes the fan is pretty much frozen into a gel, so it does not lube well. So after you start putting heat down there thru the vent, it gets warmed up and lubes as it should. I doubt they are using any greese that is able to withstand such low temps. Good luck though.

Mine too. It started when it got blow 10 and now it is all the time until the car warms up. I'll have it looked at at my first service.

Mine does the same. I talked to my dealer yesterday, and will schedule to have it replaced the next time I take the smart to Halifax.

the noise is more of a mild annoyance rather than a chronic issue, if it becomes chronic, i will take it in for a look-see at the dealer...

i just had this issue occur again over the last couple of days: 38-42 F outside temps, wind, rain and hail...squeeling/loud whirring heater blower motor on "1" and "fan (2)" settings...not occuring on "3" or "4" settings...

the last time this happened outside temps were 28-38 F with snow...

today was 48-58 F cloudy...no noise from the blower motor all day...

could it be cold weater with moisture making it squeel?

I think this will turn into a dealer visit one day soon...

My fan started making a high-pitched squeal that sounded sort of like the Jetson's car a while back. Then I noticed that at times the noise would change in pitch and the fan would start slowing down. Now my fan switches on 30% of the time, and when it does run, it sounds very sad. Maybe its a fuse thing. Taking it to the dealer on Friday.
