Hot engine

I've had my Passion for 1 week and drive it around the neighborhood and notice that it doesn't take much for the engine, luggage area and back panels to get really hot. Should I be concerned or is this "normal"?

Not sure what you mean by "really hot."

A 5 minute drive around the neighborhood is barely enough time to get the coolant warm, let alone the entire luggage area.

Yes, you'll feel a bit of warmth coming from the floor of the engine compartment, but I've never felt it was "hot." It's pretty well insulated.

MY scangauge shows the water temp in my smart to be at between 188-198 F during normal operations. It tends to be at 193 F most of the time. That's my smart's 'normal' temp.

Are you talking about inside the car, or outside?

Not hot

4 hours of solid driving didn't melt a Twix bar stored in my cargo area. Out back, that vent was putting out some serious heat, as designed.

Make sure your engine compartment cover is on right. If not, I imagine it could vent hot air (not exhaust) into your cargo area. You should see and feel no gaps.

That's serious insulation and venting; the cargo area cover's only a few inches from the manifold. I don't think it gets past 90 degrees on the top side. Any other car, the hood is too hot to touch.

Use the Scangauge II in its 'GAUGE" function and you should see four displays. As you press the button, you will see the gauges change names alphabetically. To show water temp, you should stop at FWT (that's Fahrenheit; Water Temperature).

I have IGN, RPM, FWT and MPH readings on display most of the time.
