Thanks again, Dean

I would like to find the source of the heat. There must be some place under the carpet where the hot air is being sucked in. I think that if we simply plug the hole in the carpet then the hot air will appear somewhere else.
Regards,
Smartie

Looks fine. But does it solve the problem?

I'm more interested in a cause & cure, than I am in a band aid. Will stay tuned.

I did not order mine because of any heat issues. I ordered it because of the fact that the car seemed to be lacking in that area and needed it. I was just posting this for an alternative to those that were looking for one.

Seriously guys and girls! The heat source is obviously the engine radiating through the bulkhead. There is also a wiring grommet back there so air goes under the car, into the engine bay and probably through the grommet and behind the handbrake. Turning on the fan creates an air movement the other way so the heat can't get in.

Just make a leather gaiter from some of those leather trousers you won't ever wear again.

Something like this:
Evilution - Smart Car Encyclopaedia

Or make it long enough to push into the hole at the back of the handbrake.

Hot air leak found

I pulled the carpet back and noticed that the rubber gasket on the engine cover was not properly seated all round. The cover was slightly warped.

With the window open air was being sucked from the engine bay and through the hole in the carpet.

I straightened the cover out and now the seal is much tighter. It looks like that solved the problem.

So then if that fixed your problem. Maybe it is not a big issue but the cover for the brake does make the car look better. That big ugly hole kind makes it look like you are driving a golf cart. LOL
