How critical is O-ring change while doing oil change?

I need to do an oil change, and can't really get the o ring, unless I order online.

How critical is this? Should it be alright to re use? Don't know if it's been reused already

I have 103K on my smart, I've re-used the same copper seal for the last 95K, no issues. Don't worry about it.

If anyone needs one, I have an extra that I'll sell for what I paid for it from SM. I don't use them anymore. I'll look up the price and edit this post in a little while with the cost.

if it is got a surface imperfection on it you can take a piece of 220 (and then 400 if you want) and sand it on a flat surface putting the sand paper on the flat surface facing up and then putting the washer between the sandpaper and your finger. I used the last washer in my Sentra for 140,000 miles with nary a drop of oil lost. Just no need to over-torque it!

Copper ones you can reuse. Aluminum ones you typically can't.

that would make sense, but I've only ever had the brass/copper ones.
