Be light on the gas pedal,
Try not to use the brake,
Drive smoothly,
Glide downhill,
Slow down, don't go over the speed limit.

Jesus, are there really any people out there watching this video thinking "I never thought of that"? Surely all of those things are common sense.

I'm surprised one of the things listed wasn't "don't have a hole in the gas tank".

Let's be honest, anyone who cares about MPG is going to know about these techniques already, the people who don't care about it just don't care.

Good information Smartbob, and yes Evil there actually are a lot of individuals out there that simply have not thought of these common sense ways to increase their MPG's. Sad to say I was one of them up to just a few years ago. We are often in to much of a hurry to practice this approach. By letting others know that adding a few minutes to their commute could help save them some $$ Smatbob and all the others that are helping to continue this common sense buzz are doing us all a big favor. Thanks Smartbob.

Many people DON'T drive like they should just out of habit. I've been driving like that for years since I got my 99 Concorde with the real time MPG gauge. It even goes as far back as my 1974 AMC Matador that had a MPG gauge on the dash that showed you when you were using more gas! I know my wife will keep her foot on the gas when coming to a red light were I just coast in with little brake....proof is I get 100000 miles out of my brake rotors while she goes through 3 sets in that same time.
It's another reason I got 40 mpg on my Smart right out of the box and expect that to improve a little as she gets a few miles on her. There are so many things you can do....tire presure, syn oil (AMSoil in my Concorde) drive right!!! Think if EVERY person in the USA did it!?!?!?

Years and years of conditioning by cheap gas, performance car advertising, the ego thing, etc., etc. This info has been around since Henry Ford and resurfaces every decade like it's a new discovery.

Only complaint I have is that if I try to "hypermile", in order to leave a buffer between myself and the car in front some idiot always seems to want to fill in the gap! Any suggestions to avoid that? I would LOVE to try this in my current vehicle (1998 Pontiac Grand Am).

No way arround it, it's part of the compromise when you leave room in front of you.
Be ready to relax and accept that's the way is going to be if you use those techniques.
