Interior Dome Light Stays On

OK; yes, both doors are closed and switch is in the correct location (rocker switch depressed on top side). The light does not go out sometimes so wondering if the door contact is faulty (only bought the car a month ago). Am I missing something? Happens when driving and when shutdown, parked and after doors closed for over 15 minutes.

Thanks

Yes, sometimes the back window doesn't close properly due to the air pressure inside. I close it with one of the doors open and then close the door...

Under certain circumstances... I've forget which, the dome light will stay on for about a minute and then go out. This was discovered after the car was driven, then parked in the garage.
Of course all doors must be closed and the domelight switch (flat part) is set facing the rear of smart. This was my experience.
If it's on much longer then a visit to the dealer may be needed.

I believe this delay is another feature so occupants won't stumble in complete darkness after they leave the vehicle.

Let us all read from page 107 of the good book:

Quote:
Interior lighting
The interior lamp comes on for a period of
time when you open the doors, or lock or
unlock the vehicle with the key.
It goes out
• immediately after switching off the ignition
with all doors closed,
• after 30 seconds if the doors are not
opened,
• after 15 seconds if all doors are closed,
• after 10 minutes if at least one door is open.

Dome Light Mystery Resolved

Thanks a ton for all of the quick feedback. The rear door was indeed the culprit.

Okay, now I admit I'm not always the sharpest pencil in the box, but what is the difference (aside from the time assigned) between "doors not opened" and "doors are closed". What am I missing?

I would assume that the second means door opened then closed
