I have found that it is possible for a door to be not completely closed - closed enough that it appears to be, but not enough to convince the dome light that it is (e.g., closing the door with the passenger seat belt buckle in the jamb).
I had such incident that caused a weekend email to the smart center, but I discovered the cause before they called back first thing on the following Monday.
Wait a minute. Even if a door is OPEN the dome light should go off in 15 min! So when my battery died because I thought I may have left the dome light on overnight that wasn't the reason?
