Interior Windshield won't come clean

Ok, I've had R2 for almost 9 months and he has developed a film inside the windshield. Windex can't ge it iff, the dealership special formula can't take it iff, 91% rubbing acohol barily touches it might work bettter if I had a spray bottle) what do I do? On the same note, I use rain-X 2-in-1 like someone recommended here on my windows outside, and when I do it creates a film that I can't get completly cleen even after several applications. I'm not sure what to do!

is it possible that the windshield has a defect? a lot of times your insurance will replace it for free if its a safty risk. If not have you tried goo gone? its used for removing stickers and stuff.

Are you a smoker?

I have had some luck with Method brand window cleaner from Target. They have changed the "name" but the product should still be the same.

Usually, the film that forms on the inside of a car's windshield is from the plasticizers (chemicals added to plastic to make it flexible) that out-gas from plastic pieces of the car's interior, especially in hot weather. I've found the best way to remove this film is to scrub it with a clean, dry paper towel. Windex and/or alcohol is not helpful.

JediKnight36, you might have a different problem because I haven't seen such a film develop on my smart yet. With the cloth seats and cloth covered dash there is less plastic inside a smart than other cars.

Try a test patch using acetone. I'd be suprised if that did not work. Just be careful of overspill/drips, and make sure the area is well ventilated.

I've had great success with a product called "Invisible Glass". I use it on the interior and exterior glass.

I wouldn't give up on the Windex before trying it with newsprint. Don't use paper towels as they have perfumes and softeners in them that leave residue. Even Windex wipes leave stuff behind. If you can stand it, you can try ammonia instead of Windex, and again with newsprint.

I've had bad luck with Rain-X on a previous car - disolved the wiper inserts, leaving black smears.

Good catch on the paper towels. They will definitely streak your windows.

Excellent advice regarding the newsprint. I think if newsprint and a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water doesn't cut it, there's some other issue with the windshield.

I'm a little bit goofy about having clean windows on my autos, and for my car windows, I use Invisible Glass, with micro-fiber towels that have been laundered in Dreft. How crazy is that?! ;-)

I'm in your "Amen corner" regarding Rain-X...I don't have anything good to say about the stuff.

Over the years I find that using a clean white Bounty towel, with a liberal amount of the same window washer fluid from that gallon jug setting on the shelf - works fine inside as well as out.
