Key needs to be moved as it is too easy to accidentally shut off

THe key position needs to be moved. Us Americans apparently have bigger thighs than Europeans. I have accidentally turned my car off in traffic at least eight times. Today it scared me. My son who is seven, was in the passenger seat and I was tickling him. He jerked, hit the key and turned the car off as we were turning onto a highway. I sat there trying to get it into neutral to start the car and cars were coming from both directions. This is a safety issue that the NHSTA needs to be aware of.

I've owned my car for 200 days. I have not once turned the ignition off accidently.

I have accidently shoved the shifter into neutral, when I thought I had it in manual (but didn't) and tried to upshift.

Unsure. I'm 6'1, 204 pounds, with a child. Never had an issue, never had the car shut off or had the key hit after 6000 miles. My thighs are big - not big enough?

It is a big key, then when you add other key fobs and keys onto it, it sits there between the seats and just a little bit of pressure hitting it will move it and shut the car off. I hear of people taking hard left turns hitting it when they slide to the right and turning the car off.

It's a big key, and it's best not to attach a lot to it. If you must, use a 3-4 inch lanyard or something to extend the reach.

I've never had a problem with accidental shutoff. Mainly because I saw that it was a risk and took steps to avoid said accident: I moved all my crap off the main key ring.

And there's a proposed easy mod to move the key fob off of the key itself, eliminating the problem almost entirely. I don't have the link ready to post, but it's on the forum somewhere.

I haven't had it shut off on me yet but I had a habit of hanging my right hand down on the keys. What really helped me was adding the MDC Armrest. No more problems and enough room on the armrest for two people to use.
