Has anyone installed an external keypad to unlock the doors/hatch?? I was thinking it would be a good backup for the key if the battery went dead. Not sure what it would take to wire it into the Smart system.

You can still get in to the car if your key fob battery goes dead. You just unlock it using the keyhole beneath the driver's door handle. It's covered by a small black plug with a key icon on it.
I was thinking about the keyless entry pad on my Fords. it would be nice to have that on a Smart. I know about the hole with the plug over it for the key on the door.
