I'm guessing by your question that you've confirmed my suspicion...that there aren't any holes pre-drilled for the license plate. When I changed out my plates I noticed there were two holes because the dealer bracket only had two holes. When I removed the screws it looked like they just tapped right into the body panel.

If I were you, I'd center the plate left-to-right and then place it vertically up or down enough to allow room for a license plate frame and/or the camera to have good clearance. On the coupe (and probably the cabrio as well) there's a little lip that comes out further where the bottom of the plate will be. Make sure you're plate/frame are above that so that it will sit flush against the body panel.

I've got a Cabrio and took my "tailgate" apart - it was just 6 of 8 Torx screw and the plastic panel just separated (be careful to support the gate when taking off the last screw!). Anyway, on the inside surface of the plastic panel I found 2 nuts glued to the back side for holding the license plate (tags to us Floridians). One of them had been popped off by the over eager salesman at the dealership attaching the temperary tags, so I just hot-glued it back on.

The disassemby / assembly took all of 5 minutes, so you might want to check it out before you start punching holes in the plastic!
