Longevity

Hello! I am new to Smart Cars and can't wait till I get mine! I was wondering if anyone has data or info on how many miles the Smart is expected to run over it's life period... I know that these are new engines, but maybe someone has any data. Thanks

Using general data on typical engines there is no reason for a fuel injected engine not to go 300k if you run it to operating temp when you start it cange the oil when required and keep it serviced... in other words how you take care of it...

Don't know....but if you intend to keep it til it dies then you should probably do everything possible to break it in correctly, service it regularly, etc. and it will be fine. ;)

I'll be trading in my orphan when I get my 09' delivery date, might go cabrio...

Assuming there are no accidents, 451 should last a very long time —has a Japanese microcar engine.

You might read about shorter engine life on earlier-model 450s from a decade ago. Those had European engines.

Does anyone know what % of cars suffer one accident during a five-year period? I speculate that smart cars, while protecting the occupants reasonably well, will tend to self destruct to total loss in many cases where other vehicles may still be fixable.

I have learned the shorter engine life estimate as compared to the 450 is because the 450 is diesel not gas, but being it is a decent Japanese engine made by a respectable company it should last a very long time.
(just to be certain I am purchasing the 100,000 mile warranty)

I have not heard any negative remarks regarding longevity. Japanese engines are known for lasting a long time...
