Hello smart car people, I need to remove the front hood to gain access the headlights. How do I remove that thing it the rectangle shaped one in the middle, It has to come off right ?? I can't find a latch holding it shut like american car hoods. HELP ME PLEASE. My wife doesn't like driving around with the high beams on !!!!
The service flap? That's one of the first things the person selling you the car should have shown you - shame on them!
It should be covered in the owner's manual; there are two rectangular levers in the black plastic grille below the service flap. If these two levers are pulled outward (hinged at the far right/left) the action releases the bottom clasps. The service flap is then lifted up and forward - the top outside edges have guides for the flap that often clear better (especially for insertion) if those ends of the service flap are twisted slightly to raise the center relative to the outside edges many millimeters.
The flap is strapped to the car so you can't pull it away from the car more than about a foot but there are holders for protruding hooks or pins from the back of the service flap that lets you have the flap forward and lowered from its original position.
Just remember to put the flap back in place before driving off!
Are both low beams out? They are separately bulbed (obviously) and separately fused (#22 for left and #23 for right). If the low beams went out TOGETHER, it is likely something other than either bulbs or fuses, and may be a warranty item. Low beam relay inside the SAM unit maybe?

Reason: sp.
I recently had this happen to me. The bulbs looked ok at the filament, the problem seems to be at the base. I notice discolored marks(three of them)on the base. I replaced them both,it worked. Called my smartcenter to let them know what had happened in case it happens again.
I agree with jet fuel basic troubleshooting. Bob. Ps , hey jet please post a pic of your intake scoop in the thread in the mods section, I heard it was really nice thanks. Bob.
