Magnetic oil drain plugs

Yeah, I know, its an Aluminum engine! But there are lots of ferrous metal parts inside the engine and transmission. I checked the engine oil at 2500 miles, and it looked dark and dirty (for 100% Synth oil). I decided that it was time to change it from the original "break-in oil" to a clean oil. At the same time, I happened across Magnetic oil drain plugs and decided I would install them in the engine sump, transmission drain and fill plugs and the newest "black Hole" magnet sysrtem for the outside of the oil filter

I feel that the dealers and MB have only our interest in mind for 24,000 miles. After that we are all fair game for the dealers. So, I feel I am going to do my best to preserve the engine and transmission to the best of my ability.

I had all of the "Dimple" magnetic plugs installed, (they can be found at 451series.com), filled the engine with Amsoil 5W-30, and the transmission with Mobil 1 75W-90 Gear Lube.

It may be my imagination, but the new oil seems to give me just a little more pick-up, but I really don't know. Anyone else find anything similar?

That plug is missing the screen for the oil pickup as found on the OEM plug. Not sure that's a good trade-off.

...magnetic plus or magnetics filter wraps are another weapon that we can use to keep the blood of an engine as clean as it can get...do they work?...if you remove the plug or cut the filter open and find small slivers of metals stuck to either one you've won the battle...now...oil choices are a personal thing ...you know..

I have using magnetic oil drain plugs for a long time. All our cars have them. Small price to pay to keep the engine oil clean.

You will be surprised to find out the grit and grime that magnet will
collect the first oil change you make after installing it.

Use to buy them from here: Magnetic oil drain plugs cars, trucks, motorcycle, industrial.

So far, I have not found the right one with a Neodymium magnet.

You need to update your avatar. It shows a 450 smart. The 450's don't have drain plugs.

Magnetic oil plug

When I removed the oil screen from the original plug, I turned the screen around and it fits perfectly on the new magnetic plug and presto no trade-off needed.

I would not recommend a magnetic drain plug on the Smart. The drain plug is in the channel which feeds the oil pump (which is why many Smarts have a filter on the end of the drain plug). There's a chance that a knock from road debris could allow a clump of magnetic gunk to dislodge and get sucked into the oil pump as a big lump. The occasional particle might not do any harm, but a large lump might plug up something. Better to use a magnetic collar on the oil filter.

...with the magnetic plug in the inside of the finger filter leading to the pump the chances of such small particles coming off the magnet are all but none existent...and if you have "clumps" of ferrous materials stuck to the magnet I think is time to look further into why and where they come from...

jetfuel...need bigger magnet...
