Maintenance indicator reset (service wrench)
Now that I've reached 10,000 fun and trouble free miles, I have the problem of getting rid of the cute little service wrench. Over the past two days I've tried the two methods listed by evilution with no luck. Has anyone got a better idea or had problems resetting. My dealer is about 125 miles away.

resetting the indicator
Hey, i know it's been a while since your post but in case you're paying someone to reset it heres something you can try.
1-turn the key to the on position and press the button on left side of spedometer twice, holding it in on the second tap.(tap quickly, sort of like your double clicking a mouse. the service indicator should be blinking even when you turn the key off)
2-turn key off while still holding the button down, release button afterwards-this was important
3-without wasting any time press and hold the same button (on left) and then quickly turn the key to the on position again. wait ten seconds and the indicator should stop flashing. the mileage indicator will say 10,000 which indicates when your next oil change is due(if that is the service that was needed)
Yes very similar to the other posts but the difference is holding it down on the second tap and releasing it after turning the key off, then pressing it again instead of just holding it down the whole time.
I hope this helps, good luck!

Don't know about him, but I THANK YOU! I'll be changing my oil/filter next weekend before we go to St Louis and then on to KC.
I'll let you know how it works out.

Well, chalk up another . . .
Well, chalk up another method that didn't work for me~! I've tried them all - pushing the button slow, fast - holding it down, not holding it down - turning the key off & on right away - hesitating from off to on. ETC. . .
So far all I've managed to do is reset my trip-odometer . . .
Gotta have something to do with tidal phase, moon position or day of the year, too. I'm sure not having any luck . . .

Don't feel bad. I can't get any of them to work for me either.

And then run around your car three times and squalk like a chicken.
It can't hurt, can it?
Make sure you run counter clockwise

This is what it took for mine to go off as well. You just have to be patient with it.

Timing is apparently everything with this procedure. Please post success or failure when you try it.

Well, I finally got it to work. A couple variables in the process may be whether the driver's door is open or not - I couldn't get it to do anything helpful until I closed the door. Also, in between attempts, I started removing the key for a fresh start. In the end, I'm not sure what combination actually made it work, but I sure hope all the motors/servos/gizmos that sound off when you turn the key to on have a high tolerance for rapid, continuous cycling.
Personally, I think it's a test of perserverance. You have to want it and the car makes you earn it! I have now earned my maintenance reset scout badge...
