maintenance interval - time vs mileage?

I need some help understanding the maintenance schedule. With other cars I've had, it's usually a "whichever comes first" decision (5K miles or 6 months, for example) and I'm wondering if that's also true for the Smart car. I bought my smart car in March 2008. Did a lot of driving in the first year and my 20K service was done in April 2009. Since then, I've been working from home and I've only driven about 5,000 more miles. When is the next time I am supposed to get my car serviced?

1) April 2010, since that would be the 1 year mark from my previous service.

or

2) When my car reaches 30K miles.

I asked the same question to my local Smart Center and the service guy just told me to wait until the maintenance light came on. However, I would definitely appreciate a second opinion from the forums. Thanks in advance.

-Mike

The Light will come on at 10K or 1 year, Whatever comes First.

When it comes on, then worry about it, Until then, Drive it just for fun once in a while

You are correct, "whichever comes first" is smart GmbH's and smartUSA's intent.
