Marvel Mystery Oil?

any opinions out there about the compatibility of the smart engine with Marvel Mystery Oil? I am a long-time MMO user (in my Jeep vehicles): in the fuel and in the crankcase...

I read in the smart manual where they don't recommend fuel or oil additives...

I'm in no hurry to add MMO to the smart, just seeking other opinions or anecdotal evidence.

You are already running Mobil One Synth, what added protection or detergent activity would you get from a product like that? I used it, but that was back when any additional upper cylinder lubrication would have been nice in my '61 Comet to free up the rings. Please, explain?

in the fuel system: clean and lube pump, fuel lines, injectors.
upper cylinder: valves and rings. perhaps slightly improved compression?

in older engines (and old-school engine designs like the jeep straight six), upper cylinder lube helps keep things running smoothly and efficiently.

but, in more modern designed engines, which run modern fuel formulas, as well as synthetic oil ...well, I'm not really sure if something like MMO would really provide additional results or not...

so, i guess my question is: anyone out there think there is any added-value to running Marvel Mystery Oil?

I think you answered it pretty good yourself!!!

you asked for opinions, mine is pretty much just like the quote!!

I don't think you will see improvement. JMHO

You have to be kidding about using this stuff in an engine, any engine. This stuff was originally produced as a rust-buster to get off a rusted threaded fastener. Wow.

My Gt.-Grandfather (a marine engineer/engineer "artisan") referred to this as "Oh, Be Joyful Oil" in reference to getting stuck parts apart. I remember him saying it (very early '50s).

Use it - it smells so good! It's a light weight oil with additives. In the 50's/60's it was all we had that would get into some of the places that the 30/40 wt non-detergent oils were stopping from getting lube. We used it in the fuel for the carburators that were gummed and in the crankcase for the rocker shafts that were stuck - and it worked. Today I still keep it in my shop, it's a great air tool lube and I have a '59 John Deere tractor that likes it, but not in the smart, or my other new vehicles.
