No it's not, you have to do the initial set-up to get your MAC address on their system, then e-mail them back and they send you the keys. Or you can do like I did, and pay a few extra bucks for a set that is good until 2020.
I did get my keys today, and the set-up went through after that. It takes a while to figure out how the system works, but once you get into it, it does have a lot of good info. My primary interst was to get the service proceedure for adjusting valve lash at 60K, and I found all the info I needed. Be patient, and work through the system, it will give you a lot of info, especially if you are like me, and like doing your own maintenace.
I am now a happy customer, although an improved set of instruction would be helpful.
Regarding the keys -- do they expire, or are the extra cost keys for future upgarde versions?
I'm not sure, seems like I read somewhere that the free ones are only good for a year, but I may be all wet. I was just concerned that they were asking for some info for the free ones that I wasn't prepared to give. By purchasing them, I didn't have to give him any of that. I was concerned that they came out of Eastern Europe. No telling what hey would do with the info.
How do you get the 10 year keys? And, if I may ask, what does that cost?
When you install the first disk, the page that come up has links to all the instructions, and if you scroll down to the bottom, there is a link to their web forum. You need to register there, and I believe there was a link in the instruction to buy the keys. It's 7 Euros, which converted to about $10.
How is this done? Trying to install on my computer it says "registry access failed"
Like JimDantin said, follow the instructions for Vista. Watch the video link. I had to watch it several times so I understood it, it goes by pretty quick. I typing this at work, so I don't have the info in front of me, but after watching the video several times, click on the install WIS link, it should automatically install the program. Once that is done, go back into the EWA program and select WIS net and it should open a Daimler page that asks for logon and password. Both are "admin". Once on, you have to change your password, then click on the server link, and then "edit server" or something like that, and it should bring up a page that shows your MAC address. Copy that down and e-mail it to the provided e-mail in the instructional video. I got mine in about 8 hours.
Like I said, not the easiest program to work with, but you can get through it. MAKE SURE to register on their forum, you can then go to the thread about install, and TAKE YOUR TIME reading it so you thoroughly understand how it's supposed to work. It took me 4 or 5 tries to get mine right. Once it's up though, you'll be glad you did it. Lots of good info.

Reason: corrected terminology
anyone who want to sucessfully install this, needs to go to the web site: auto-manuals.biz and register for their forum. If you go to the forum, and click on the first forum on Mercedes EWA net EPC & WIS 01/2009, 01/2008, 03/2007. Then click on the windows XP install instructions, about half way through it gives you the first link above. That is where it showed the basic keys only good for 1 year. Or you can spend the 7 Euro's for a ten year set.
