It also pays to watch PEP and Murray's as they have similar deals from time to time. I bought 5 quarts of M1 0-40 and a M1 filter at PEP a couple of months ago for 24.95 after a 5.00 rebate.
You're welcome! Went in today to pick up 5W30 for the Vette and got the M1-108 filter for the smart since I already have the Vette filters. Will go back before the end of the month to pick up the 0W40 for the smart and another filter - too good to pass up.
Great deal for those that will use a Moble 1 filter. Thanks

Is there a better filter? I know that the Mobil 1 filter is superior to the OEM filter, but is there something better still? Purolator PureOne, perhaps?

Yes there are.
Just do a search and you'll find a lot of info about filters in past discussions

There are almost 300 messages that contain the phrase "oil filter." If you believe that there are better choices that the Mobil 1, please list them here.
It's a waste of people's time and unnecessarily thrashes the disk drives supporting this forum to have everyone searching through messages, many of which contain outdated information from before the correct filters for our application had even been identified by the manufacturers.
I asked that question here because I had hoped that someone who had already done the research would post the information here.
Old smart is the guru on filter info; you can PM him and avoid the searching.
From one of his posts:
Here are the pedigrees of some common filters:
Champion Labs: AC Delco, STP, Mobil 1, K&N
Dana/Wix: Wix, NAPA, Carquest
Honeywell: Fram, Pennzoil, Quaker State
Purolator: Purolator, Bosch, Motorcraft, also Quaker State
Tokyo Roki: Mitsubishi (smart), Yamaha
What I came away with from that discussion is that the top aftermarket filters for the smart are (probably) the Purolator PureOne and the Mobil 1. The Purolator PureOne has the advantage of having a larger amount of filter media, allowing it to go longer before clogging. Both have top-of-the-line synthetic media which is capable of filtering much finer particles than traditional cellulose (paper) media filters. The quality of construction on both is superb.
Mobil 1 oil filters have a very high 99.2 percent efficiency rating (under SAE J1858 Multi-Pass Efficiency Test), making them much more efficient than a typical oil filter, removing more particles per pass through the filter. I was not able to find J1858 test results for the Purolator PureOne.
Your information about actual manufacturer of each filter is valuable, but readers need to remember that companies like Champion Labs are building filters to specific price points. They can build a cheap filter or a top-quality one, depending on what the vendor wants to pay.
