Autozone have a sale till the 6th. 5 qt of Mobil 1 syntetic and Bosh oil filter for $29. I use OEM oil filter on the Smart and use Bosh for my other vehicles.
Thanks....I had already picked up my OEM filter and drain plug gasket from SCI and then I stopped to get my Mobil 1 at AZ. That's when I saw they had the Bosch for $6.49 and the Mobil 1's for $19.00/2.
Just for safetys sake, I think I'll stick with the OEM filter until my warranty is up and then I'll go with something else. Hey, at 10k per change, it's only 2 OEM filters, which isn't going to kill me.
Yes, realize a oil plug washer is probably not needed but it is called for during a oil change and if I ever have a warranty issue I really don't want to give the dealership any more ammunition then necesary. Was already told I would have to produce the oil and oil filter receipts if ever needed. Guess next I'll have to prove that I am competent enough too...In my case I have already held my dealership's feet to the fire to honor what we (wife and I) was promised at the time of purchase (in case of a breakdown, the vehicle will be towed to the dealership, repaired and "RETURNED" to us. Our dealership is three hours drive oneway...185 miles). We now have this agreement in writting and signed by the dealership owner...lesson learned!!!
In our case, I change oil at 5,000 mile intervals...it's only a three cylinder engine and it runs hard as that most of our driving is fourty five miles and above...heck, we don't even stop...someone just has to "jump" out...LOL

Absolutely not, but thanks for asking! (insert annoying smiley-thing here)
Also, though I buy lots of stuff, but I don't sell anything... at least not for a profit. Price quoted per-oil-change was for a full-synth oil. Specifying Mobil 1 raises the price about 4-5 bux, as I recall. Oh, and that would be American money. I'd like to have lots of some other currency, but don't have anyplace to spend it.
I might've gotten the filter price a buck-or-so off. I'm typing from memory and don't have the invoice handy.
The oil is bought sometimes in bulk (gotta be careful), and sometimes in lots of quart bottles. Depends on the price and what's available at the time of order. I've bought several 55-gallon drums of full-synth, but not just any company will sell their product that way. Many will though. Takes a while to run through that much oil, but enough friends know I have it and their help makes the barrel drain a little quicker.
I didn't state that "$8.80" price to make anyone upset. Someone was looking for (I assume) a range of prices, so I thought it'd be fun to throw my hat in the ring. My data is valid because it adheres to what I consider to be the spirit of the poll, IE:
1) I shop, (...vehemently I shop!), and
2) I buy (and pay for) my items with my own money
3) None of it is the "I get it free at work" stuff.
4) Any really determined person could duplicate my results
I do my own work, and always (gasp!) re-use the washer. Somewhere there lies an old grey Buick V6 with 375,000 leak-free miles on its original drain plug washer. Should you happen to find it, don't buy the transmission it's hooked to. Trust me, there's nothin' but toast inside.
I'm not a brilliant shopper/negotiator, but I do tend to be persistent. Other than this humble quality, I have no magical powers. Okay, I am good with Weber carbs, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't count for much here.

ADiF
Does with me (a couple of 40 DCOE 151s).
Anyway, my smart center maintenance bay uses Castrol SynTech 5W-30 in bulk, as do the other six dealerships owned by the Checkered Flag Motors group. Dunno if it comes in pails, drums, or something bigger.
I assume they will also sell Mobil 1 in quarts over-the-counter if anyone asks for it.
OK....all I see is a lot of 'blah, blah, blah' and no substance.
PRICES, how about individual prices of your items?
OIL FILTER.......how much do you pay for an oil filter, what brand and where did you get it?
SYNTHETIC OIL.......how much did you pay for your oil (even if you bought a 55gal drum and it worked out to $2/qt, that's still $8 of your $8.80+tax total) per quart, what brand and again, where did you get it?
You stated that "Anyone could do the same if he REALLY wanted to.", so HOW do WE do that if you don't tell us?

REALLY? Guess that makes sense. Hard to leak fluid if there's none in it!

Though unrelated to this thread UNTIL someone introduced the concept of bulk oil, you gotta be careful. The Honda dealership where I worked in the mid-70s ordered a bulk 55-gallon drum of our favorite (at that time) flavor from an oil company rep/salesman/distributor. When it came in, I hooked up the pump and drew out the first "squeezin's." Red flag. So I said, "Hey Boss (he was the owner, his name was Ronnie, and he was a walking encyclopedia of all things Honda), this is most definitely NOT xxxxxxxx (insert name of oil). It's not the right color and it doesn't even SMELL right." Ronnie, who was one sharp cookie, looked at and said, "I don't know what it is, but I can sure tell you what it ain't." (proper southern US contraction)
He called the distributor and made them come pick up the drum and give him 55-gallons (IN QUARTS!) of the oil he'd ordered. Their willingness (though reluctant) to do this told me (and Ronnie) that they knew SOMETHING was up, and had either done it, or passed it along to us. Did the big national company put the cheap oil in the high-priced drum? The distributor? The rep? Who knows, but Ronnie never bought another drum of bulk oil 'til Honda came out with their own (Honda branded) stuff.
Also, I am most certainly NOT implying that your dealership is part of any such shenanigans, only that we must be gentle like lambs, but also wise like serpents. Read that in an old book.

If you think you're being reasonable and polite, then, by all means, continue. I told you what I paid and that I'm not selling anything. The only thing left is to call me a liar... which doesn't really further the helpfulness of this thread, which is (I reckon) a poll to get a RANGE of prices for either a FULL-SYNTH oil change, or a MOBIL 1 oil change. I participated and I told the truth. I am responsible for my words and I don't take that responsibility lightly.
As for "then tell us how to do it," I thought the "55-gallon bulk oil" was a pretty useful tip. Why all the anger? If I'm a liar, I should be the one getting mad for having been "found out," not you. You should be gleeful that you have outted a snake and warned the (scoa) world about me. If you're certain that's what you've done, then rejoice... and keep laboring at your good works. Perhaps your finest hour is yet to come.
