Mobile One on Sale - Advance

Advance Auto is running a sale on 5 quarts of Mobile One synthetic AND a Mobile One filter for $30. That's not bad.

According to Exxon, the recommended Mobile One oil filter for the smart fortwo is the M1-108.

The M1-110 will also fit the threads and gasket, but the filter is actually a bit longer, I would NOT USE IT on the fortwo!

One Advance I stopped in had NO 108s. They would have substituted filters (they had 4 in the computer that fit). I called a different store and they had a couple in stock.

Turns out that my smart, my Subaru 2.5XT turbo and my Yamaha FJR1300 all take the M1-108 filter. It's time for me to STOCK UP!

Just thought I'd pass it along.

The M1-108 filter is 2-1/2” deep, a bit deeper than the OEM's 1-15/16". If the M1-110 is 3" deep or any deeper it will have the same or less ground clearance than the lowest point on the engine.

Otherwise, $30 for the whole package isn't bad.

The M1-108 is level with the bottom of the oil pan/drain bolt housing and above the frame. It is the filter recommended for the 2008 passion on Exxon's website.

The M1-110 would definitely be hanging out below the lowest part of the engine AND the frame. Don't use a 110 unless it's an "emergency" and there's absolutely nothing else available.

Called the dealer to check on a price for just a 5k mile oil change. $90! Going to go to Advance and get the 0W-40 and a M1 108. Dealer also mentioned a $2 ring? Is that the crush washer on the drain plug? Is it ok to reuse it once? Figure they can replace it at the 10K checkup.

The washer is solid and resuable. My dealer will sell spares/replacements but says it's a waste of your money.

How often should I change the Oil? Can my local car repair shop do it? My dealer is 150 miles away.

Probably true; BTW, $2 for one of these is good. They're $5 at the Columbus dealer.
