The MP3 Player connection in the glove box

I have an issue with having this in the glove box, as the cable gets crushed when you close the door. Is there something I am missing on there, did they put in a groove for the cable?

It makes no sense to have it in there, but not be able to close the door without crushing the cable. To leave it in there is a safety hazard to have to try and reach over and dig the iPod out whenever you want to change the music, or b. leave the door open which is a pain and could endanger a passenger in an accident, or c. pull the iPod out but crush the cable in the door.

Does anyone know any way around this?

Thanks!

In the rest of the world the glove box door is an option; most smarts don't have one, so the cable interference is not an issue. I've been able to use an aux cable without crushing it, leaving the mp3 player on the little shelf in front of the door.

Drill a 1/4 hole 1 inch down and one inch to the right of the upper left hand corner of the glove box. This is clean, easy to do (don't drill too deep!) and is hardly noticeable
