No warrantyhelp on Dead Battery ( Bad Alt?!?)

2006 Smart Fortwo Cabriolet 15k ( Canadian version )

So driving along 4 weeks ago, Battery light Came on.. on way home, started to lose all power ( all dummy lights came on)
Made it home ok, shut it off and battery was flat, later that day jumped the car ( let it charge for about 30 min)
car started drove it around for it a bit. after about 20 min the battery light came back on..
replaced battery, car drove ok for about a day and then battery light again..
so i am thinking the alt went out on it..
but.. Smart of America will not do any warranty work on the car due to its under warranty in canada.. so now i am in Tampa Florida with a dead smart and the only way to get it flxed is to have it trucked up to canada to have it looked at..
Any Advice?

The terms of a warranty are the terms of a warranty.

My VW is warrantied in the US and Canada, and nowhere else. My Apple laptop is warrantied worldwide.

I have no idea where my smart is warrantied!

I would suggest you call your canadian dealer and ask if they will re-imburse you for a new battery (keep the reciept)?

If you have your alternator tested, and it is bad, your best bet may be to have it replaced in the Tampa area at your initial expense and try to get M-B Canada to reimburse you. Especially if you return to CA with the bum alternator as proof. Hopefully your alternator is a common European Seimens or Bosch part.
