OBD II Code U0002

09 Passion with 2500 miles.

My scan gage pulled this code. I reset it. High speed Bus?

Do I need to take this to the dealer?

The car seems to be completely normal.

U0002 is a low voltage on the bus, I think. I'd expect more codes to accompany it if it's accurate.

Check that your Scangauge's OBD connection isn't loose; I've read that OBD readers themselves can trigger the code if they rattle around too much. I don't know how accurate that is, though.

Then it can't hurt to check grounds in the battery compartment; if the code comes back you might want to take it in to the dealer for a look.

Do you have anything plugged into the 12v accessory connector? If you do that may be causing the U0002 if I plug my cell phone into it and turn the car off and then restart it I get the code.

I used the Scan Gage to reset it. The light did not come back on. It was raining and I did run through a couple of pretty good puddles, maybe something got wet?
Years ago we had an Eagle Vision, every time it rained the engine check light would come on, then the next day it was out. I did check the Scan Gage connection, it is tight; the lights, wipers (front & rear), blower motor and radio we all on.

...check the battery ground..(thanks SuperGeek)...the plugs of the smart are made pretty good to prevent water contamination...now... a slightly loose ground will mess everything up...remember most electronic use ground for signal return...

Had smart at the dealer yesterday and showed them that if I plug my Sprint Touch cell phone in the 12v connection and start the car then turn if off and start it again it will set the check engine light and code U0002 comes up. Then we tried it on a 09 smart and it did the same thing, so we think it has something to do with the sprint Touch putting noise in the system when plugged in. They have no answer.... and are looking into it.

Would be interesting if it's a power spike like you get with a high powered amplifier. Turn on a 600W amp and unless it mutes its output for a couple seconds, it can pop the speakers. At least they would 20-30 years ago.

I can't imagine a cell phone taking a whole lot of power, but that circuit's only rated at 5 amps... maybe its feed is too sensitive to spikes and noise. Something about that 5 amp restriction makes me wonder if there's a design sacrifice that's been made because power was routed a certain way.

I got the engine service light on since yesterday night.

It was the same code U0002.

I contacted the dealership and asked them about it. He had a great explanation for it.

It is actually due to certain accessories plugged into the power outlet. The thing is that not every accessory will make that code to show.

The error code says: "U0002 High Speed CAN Communication Bus (+) Open".When turning the car off, there is a device that checks that everything is turned off correctly. According to the error, it is still receiving power from the power outlet (which could be your phone/GPS sending power back to the power outlet) and therefore the device thinks of it being an error and reports it as U0002.

I hope I translated correctly what the Dealership specialist told me... It might not be as clear as if you called them.

You can clear that code and it will not show up again if you never let anything plugged into the power outlet when the car is off.

Interesting. I have a splitter in my 12Vdc outlet, one if for my Xpress XM radio (always left on) and a 12Vdc to USB adapter (to charge my droid or earpiece) I leave that plugged in all the time, too.

Never had an error code.
