if filters cost about $20-$25.00 how often does the manual say to change the oil?

I remember hearing every 10,000miles from someone on the board. But I remember people saying they are changing their first oil chance sooner because of the "metal shavings" that occur with a new engine.

10,000 miles/oil change is what's recommended. I've got a call into our service manager to see exactly what he says about the first oil change and those that follow. I'll keep you posted as soon as I hear anything official from a smart service expert.

I just bought one from the dealer for $30.11 by the time it is due to be changed by the book 10,000 miles or one year whatever comes first the aftermarket should have filters that they say will work for our cars. With a two year warranty it should only be two changes until you are free to chose without worry about voiding your warranty.

Service including oil changes are every 10,00 miles or once a year which ever comes first. There is no "break in" oil change, such as the old 1000 mile change.

You can get a first class NAPA for about $8, and a Mobil 1 filter for about $10 at local auto parts stores. No way can those hurt any warranty. I"m planning on changing both oil and filter at about 5,000. For a total cost of about $30. Not too big a deal.

Call the filter manufactuers and ask them to cross their filters for smart, they will tell you they do not have a filter now and will not warranty the filter on the smart. I called and ask.

Yes we should take the saddle off this horse because it is dead.
