Oil Filter Option

I just changed my oil at 1100 miles. I was all finished when I decided to also chane the oil in my wife's Yaris (4door) . I compared the oil filter due to them looking VERY close in size. The Yaris is cheaper at WalMart. So being somewhat into "satandardization" I had to check for differences. Other than the Yaris Fram being 3/8" longer they are the same! More filter area is fine w/ me!. I have done this in the past on other cars and it works.
PH4967 is for Yaris and PH 6607 is for Smart. Both are Fram numbers. I believe the yaris one is $3.42 at Wal Mart.

Your info confirms the Fram 6607 number in the other oil filter threads. Be aware there is a vocal "non-FRAM" bunch on the forum but press on. A couple of us in Dayton are using the FRAMs; I'll be the first to advise everyone when the car's engine self-destructs.

from what ive hear there are only 2 or 3 plants in the world that make oil filters and are made to the specs of the company they make them for. so that would make them all pretty much the same?

Max,

Sorta' but no. They will make what the retailer wants and is willing pay for.

Here are the pedigrees of some common filters:
Champion Labs: AC Delco, STP, Mobil 1, K&N
Dana/Wix: Wix, NAPA, Carquest
Honeywell: Fram, Pennzoil, Quaker State
Purolator: Purolator, Bosch, Motorcraft, also Quaker State
Tokyo Roki: Mitsubishi (smart), Yamaha

I thought I read (or maybe dreamt) that Smart specs called for a non organic filter element? Is that Fram a paper or man made element?
I used Fram PH8A on my 66 Mustang for 30+ years now with out a prob.....but I use what the car needs.
