Oil life monitor

I just read a post at another site that had a guy saying his smart has a oil life monitor that will tell him when to get a oil change. True? He went on to say the stock oil will last longer than 10,000 Mile.

I don't recall an oil life monitor being mentioned but there is a maintenance interval reminder! ;)

Extending the maintenance interval is like asking for denial of warranty service. Your call!!

Get an intellistick, It's a new electronic dipstick that monitors the oil for water, contamination, etc. It will report to a laptop or to a bluetooth device upon demand and will give you the current status of your oil.
The only drawback I've seen is the price. Maybe a group buy.

Just my .02, but a 10K mile (or yearly) oil change is pretty good; why push it? And you can do it yourself - don't have to use the dealer. And no, smart does not have an oil life monitor.

OUCH! At $500, which is the cost of approximately 14 oil/filter changes, if you were able to double your mileage change intervals over factory recommendations of 10k, you would have to get 280,000 miles out of your engine before you broke even. That is a L-O-N-G payoff.
However, it is a really cool little gadget. And cool can be priceless....

I did not say he was right? LOL I will change my oil at 100 mile to 5w 30 conventional then at 5000 conventional then go back to the 0w 40 synthetic at 10,000 mile. I want the rings to set in.
