I purchased my replacement part and had to pay for the part and shipping. And don't you know the light went off the day the part arrived. I will replace it and also emailed Smart with my complaint of not honoring the warranty and giving me the part for free minus the shipping. I'll try returning the old part to my local Smart dealer. Thanks for the heads up.

They warantee the part and the work when you have it serviced at the Smart Center. If yours is 500 miles away, they might even work something out with a nearby mercedes dealership to get you running (though I haven't heard of them doing this).

But why would you expect them to give you a free part because you say you have a problem?

"Umm... my engine broke. Yeah, that's it: I need a new engine under warrantee. Please ship it to me at no cost to myself. Thanks so much!"

My check engine light came on the day before my first oil change appointment. Perfect timing! Yes, this was the issue. No biggie, my dealer did a great job handling it.

I know what you're saying, but it still begs the question of service for those hundreds of miles from their smart centers. This situation has been there since Day 1 and smart has only two choices as I see it - tow the car in for repairs or, in the case of something relatively simple such as the subject of this thread, ship the part to the owner for local repair. Yes, I suppose somebody could invent the secondary air injection fault, but why? For a $37 part? I e-mailed Ken Kettenbiel about this several weeks ago and unfortunately haven't received a reply.

My daughter-in-law also has a smartie and had the P0410 code. After taking the car in to the dealer, they replaced the sensor. A few days later, the second sensor failed. Now I have the P0410 and you can bet I'll ask/demand that they replace both sensors.

smart center portland as a lot of cars many miles away and they had a few of those 410 codes. the best thing to do is take it to a local mechanic and them have them call smar roadside and tell them the code. Most of the time they just shipped the part to the mechanic and the dealer ship paid for freight and themechanic. Smart USA would then just reimburse the dealer ship

I just got a notice from my UltraGauge that this code is pending. I guess I'll have to order the replacement part.

The dealer wants $67 for this part now. That's a $30 increase in the last two or three years.

Code PO 410-Secondary Air Valve:

This should be covered under your emissions warranty. I have had this code come up twice on my smart. I just erased the code and I had no cel for a few months. The cel came on the other day and I reset it again. If it comes on again, I will take it in to the dealer and have hopefully have them replace the secondary air valve. If the dealer will not replace this component under your emissions warranty, call smart USA. Other smart owners have told me that they have had the same code throw a cel.

I'll give that a try. Thanks!
