Yup, $37 part to save a 4-hour (round) trip is worth it for me. Hope its a regular M-B so I can order locally if needed!

Wow, I'm almost proud of the fact that I made it 7200 miles before this part failed on me.... I find that kinda sad, but then I remember the reliability of some other parts on some other cars I've owned in my life. Anybody remember Chrysler's "lean burn" ignition systems, circa 78-79? smart center Orlando just said bring it in after work. The paperwork will take longer than the replacement. I'll let them do the work under warranty for two very good reasons -- first they aren't that far away and second, if I can get someone else to reach up into that engine bay and replace a metal valve after I've been driving a half hour in the Central Florida July afternoon at no expense to me, the job is theirs. Congratulations.

7200 miles is a long time, for a failure to finally show up. you're right. I hope the replacement parts are more durable than this build. I am getting mine done this week I think.

I have access to ALL of these and you can too, it only costs a measly €15 (about $24.50) for a years subscription. The screen shot was from the EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue), you can search for parts and numbers for any Merc and any smart. You just type in your VIN and it chooses the pages you require.

Just went there and you can only pay by credit card
and the card needs to be in one of the listed countries.
US and CDN are not on the list but Vatican City and Malta are.

whelp, got mine done today. SmartCenter of Smithtown changed the secondary air valve, installed my trunk divider w/net, and checked a false warning on the "tire getting low" thingy.

all in about an hour. had a little coffee they had there (Starbucks, no less ), did some paperwork, and was on my way with a freshly washed car and only $48 out of my pocket.

doesn't get much better than that fellas.

..."...another interesting factoid is none failed in first 500~750 miles but he did not remember lowest mileage failure and I relieved him of the pain of looking it up...he thought it was in the 900+ mileage range"...

FWIW: Mine failed at 270 miles...

I'm hoping the same. Mine died yesterday after 2230 miles and got it replaced today.

Parts on back order

I am hearing from Germain in Central Ohio the parts are on backorder, they currently have 12 on backorder. I have been waiting close to a month now, so count yourself lucky if your dealer is able to get them.

I was wondering why this problem was only affecting the USA smarts.
Worked it out eventually, only USA smarts have this part.
