Sorry, I misunderstood your earlier post; I thought you said other diesel powered cars weren't allowed in the USA, not that they were built by Mercedes and get lower mpg than the smart.

BTW, here's what Motor Trend had to say:

Quote:
The first of the 50-state legal Volkswagen diesels have been EPA-tested with the 2009 VW Jetta TDI achieving 30/41 city/highway mpg numbers mating a 2.0-liter diesel to a six-speed manual transmission.
So, 3 mpg lower city, but the same rating as the smart on the highway.

Mine at about 300 miles

Came on right after my second tank (tank was half full before fuel up), took 40 minutes at the dealer to replace the valve.

Mine just went at just under 2000 miles.... Since the code isn't going to not stick, I'll figure out when I can go to Latham and get the darn thing fixed....

Any one know if smart cars delivered today come with the updated valve?
I had problems with Bosch air valves on my old 2000 VW Passat 1.8T, too bad smart sticks with bosch parts even having a Mitsubishi engine onboard. I want Denso electric parts!
Bosch
Denso

I was hit with this failure at 4,000 miles, yesterday. Dealer replaced in an hour, however, I can not pickup until Saturaday - schedule conflicts. So I am driving the Pilot. I just wish I had a bumper sticker on the Pilot stating: "I'd rather be driving my smart car".

Dealer was well aware of the problem and indicated they have had many of these failures. The service manager was willing to bet on the problem - he won. He also authorized a replacement of the driver seat cover - leather - due to stitiching coming loose.

If you can schedule it with your Service/Parts Manager, talk him to have the computer up and running, the part ready, the spot vacant in the bay, and you show up just on time: it can be done in 10 minutes, including paperwork...

You can put me on the list of P0410 codes. My CEL came on a couple of days ago and I read the code and it was P0410, the CEL went out this morning but smart Center Tulsa has parts on order and will replace the valve September 4. I have just over 15,000 miles on my smart.

I just wanted to add my "Little Blue" to the list of cars getting the P0410 error. I brought him to the dealer, told them the error code and was assured they new exactly what the problem was. They replaced the faulty valve and Little Blue and I were back on the road just a short time later.

The dealer even gave Little Blue a bath. WOOT!
