Kane, one minor typo - the link should be smartcar (singular) ofamerica.com. Thanks for posting the mod on your site with the part # and hose connection info.

Because not everyone lives around the corner from their Smart Service Center! I for instance am 4 Hours from the closest center, so when a part costs $37.00 and is easy to install, I am "all in".

Raider Fan - it's tough to tell which 2008 post you're responding to.
I wouldn't expect to see these codes pop up anymore, at least not much and nothing but earlier cars. I hear through the grapevine that one person on the smart production line was responsible for these failures, doing something he should not have been; once identified what he did, I'm sure no more cars were shipped with his "improper" installation.

Just shy of 25 months while in KC for national, I got the CIL/P0410 code.
Clint at scMerriam said they would check and fix it for about $130 if I recall correctly. Instead I called Bryce back at scPDX and he explained the code, told to clear it at be on my way, and I did.
Yesterday, the CIL/P0410 was back. Guess I'll deal with replacement next Friday when I'm in to scPDX for my 40K service.

I just got the P0410 code on the way to work yesterday. Thanks to my Ultra Gauge giving me the code, and google (on my phone) landing me on THIS, my biggest source of smart info, I was back on my way to work in a few minutes, not worried that the car was going to fail in some horrible way while driving it. (I love technology.) I have tomorrow off, and so have an appointment to drop my car off at my very convenient smart center in the morning. I have a 2009 Cabrio with about 17,000 miles. Just reporting in. My car is obviously not one of the 'early' models referred to previously in this thread?
So I took my car in as scheduled and mentioned above - and they said that they could not find a bulletin or tech note (I forget the exact wording now) about this exact code, and since they have seen many bogus emissions errors in the past, they don't like to start throwing parts at a car. They also smoked it, looking for air leaks and found none. They aired up my tires and cleared the TPMS message that just came on with the cold weather the day before, and washed my car inside and out, it was SPARKLING. Considering that even if it comes back after I'm out of warranty, we're talking about a $40 part, I'm satisfied with the service I received. Although I am surprised after having read all the reports here on SCOA, that the tech at my local MB/smart service center couldn't find any internal documents about the issue?
I was one of the early '08's who had a bad valve. They replaced it under warranty(only had 1500 miles on it at the time). I had the code pop up again last spring. I ordered the valve($37), but in the mean time, I cleared the code. It hasn't come back since, so the valve sits on the shelf just in case....
Toolman, I wouldn't worry about it. Probably just a fluke...

Thanks WhiteNBlack08, I won't worry. I just wanted to throw experience into a thread for future searchers. It's not like that time I took my in-warranty car (a Plymouth Neon) into a shop and complained about it getting stuck in 2nd real often, while it was in warranty - they said they couldn't reproduce the problem, and 6 months after the warranty expired the transmission went completely. Now THAT was bad.
