P1800 & P2802 obd codes (not the ones you want to see!)

08 Passion did a hard reset on me after making some nice gearbox/clutch/transmission noises. ESP, double wrenches, check engine lit. Wouldn't allow start up for a few minutes.

Dealer was kind enough to charge me only $105 to check the codes and reset as I'm out of warranty by a few thousand (27k)... and no over the counter obd reader will work......said the transmission shifter motor part ($500) is going bad.

Don't know how may have past the 24k mark but it seems like the economy of ownership will dwindle as it starts to fall apart, $500 to 1200 at a time.

I bet yugo drivetrains lasted longer!

Yikes

I think the hard reset is when the computer restarts and has to reset all the basic parameters and relearn the shifting. Think this happens Also when u disconnect the battery. It's driving fine now and hopefully it will not hdppen again anytime soon!

Glad to hear it. But were there any indications that there was trouble brewing beforehand? Noise ? Performance glitch? etc.

Other than the usual not finding reverse and then a metallic clang/clunk a few minutes after the car was parked. Maybe it was a one time glitch.

I think stressed_member was asking whether there were any issues you may have noticed in the days, weeks, or months prior to these fault codes and "hard reset"? In other words, anything that would lead you to believe that the shifter motor or other transmission component might be failing.

Only symptoms were of the trans not finding reverse sometimes. I can usually go to manual mode then back to reverse and then it finds the gear. As we speak though, car is driving fine now but it would be nice to have a compatible obd reader that can reset the check engine light than having to fork over $100 everytime and wasting half a day with the dealer.

I've used the ScanGauge to clear codes, but haven't specifically used it to reset the check engine light.

That's interesting... will the scan gauge turn off the check engine light? Also, in my case, the triangle ! light was on that required resetting.

As far as a replacement shifter motor... other than the dealer, where might one be found?

Thanks
