Agree, the paddles are a fluff redundancy. They tend to get in the way when turning the wheel quickly, as in a side street 180 degree turn.

I'd like to swap "upshift" and "downshift" on the gear shift!

On a standard (6-speed) stickshift, first is forward of second (and neutral), and the top gear is in the bottom right corner. So, for most downshifts (single downshift from top gear, 4->3, and 2->1) the smart shift pattern is backwards.

One should be pushing forward to downshift, not pulling back!

I'd happily trade the paddle shifters for an "overdrive off" button that'd disable 5th and remap the other 4 gears across most of the speed range (say, 0-80 MPH). The only time I use manual is to drop out of 5th when going uphill on the interstate.

That sound just like what smart intended with the paddle shifters and the 2.0 upgrade

See notes at bottom of page

forestacademy;

I've got the '09 with the 2.0 firmware stock, so I never got that brochure. Didn't notice that it forces an upshift at redline because I haven't pushed it that hard -- that's a nice touch, much more user-friendly than simply triggering the rev limiter.

I'm surprised to see so many people here who are so unhappy with the paddle shifters. Jezzz, they're one of the FUN FACTORS with the smart! Oh well, different strokes.

I don't get it. The paddle shifters are the icing on the cake. The automatic mode is a dog. Learn to use them and have some fun. I went up Pikes Peak and half the fun was using the paddles.
