Panel Swaps

1. Exactly how complicated is replacing panels by the average smart owner?

2. We should have a sticky for those wishing to participate in a "revolving" panel club.

1. There's a link to this somewhere - brochure, EU smart site, not sure. Supposedly takes 2-3 hours.

2. Yes

panel swaps

When I get my yellow smart, I just want to see what a black hood would look like on it. That swap can be done in minutes I think, since the hood just comes right off with a couple of latches. I'm just wondering what a black hood would cost. In fact, I think a black hood would probably look pretty good on any of the smarts that has the black cell trim....don't cha think?

When at the tour at summerfest in Milwaukee I talked to the german mechanic although broken english. He said it takes 45 min. He said you could pull the entire rear drive train and swap out the engine for another and put it all back together in 3hrs

Great clip!
The 451 is supposed to have less clips/pins on the panels. It should be even faster..

Pins and Clips

There better not be any less plns and clips on a 451.

The 450 has 1 screw, two pins, per side and 3major screws - 2minor for the rear. No clips (that's for the two rear fenders, rear panel and valance). My time approx, not rushing, 5 minutes

Any less and you might as well use Velcro

BTW: Time to learn a new term; 'Keyhole pin'

If you park in a bad neighborhood, you may wish it took longer to remove them.;)

So here's the best I could do with photoshop.
At least it maybe gives you a ballpark idea.
