Good to know, I will buy those lubricant..
Sadly, I just found out my shade rail is is out of track for the right rear C clip. Besides going back to dealer ( 3 hours away). It looks like i have to take the whole track down... maybe? Should I tackle this problem?
thanks in advance.
be advised: the sunshade is a tricky contraption. if you think you have the equipment, patience and "know how" to attempt a fix, by all means proceed. many have successfully tackled the "slipped out of the u-channel" problem on their own. if not, just contact the service dept. at your dealer for advisement and schedule a waranty repair. your dealer has probably already fixed a dozen or more sunshades by now...it's a very common issue.
Mark, the service manager at scAlexandria, told me that it's like a jack-in-the-box. He doesn't handle it, just "warrantees it" and exchanges it. Is this a warning? You bet!
So, I tried some. Report:
Be careful not to spray some on the roof, it'll leave a white milky film. Wipe off any excess. I used a folded newspaper tucked between the railing and the roof and it worked fine. The spray nozzle is like a can of "Pam".
Requires a thorough ventilation: both windows open, no flame...
It seems to have improved the slide. But since I did both sides, I don't have an un-lubricated shade railing to compare to...
What I noticed is that I can now roll the shade back with one hand and in one motion. Before, it did resist and I had to roll it in with two pushes.
Would it avoid failure in the future? Only time will tell...
Over and out.
I was looking at some marine lubrication today...this "sailkote" stuff seems like it just might be the ticket! thanks!
I really like this one, I was convinced after I put it on the mainsail of the little cat I have. the sail was real tough to raise until I used it. then it slid right up and down easily. I thougt it would help it I was VERY impressed how much better it was.
I am really hoping that with proper care/handling and lubrication, my sunshade will funtion acceptably for a long long time...
as it stands now...i am very cautious when opening and closing that thing!
I was having the same problem with the shade binding when opening. All I started to do was to open with both hands on the outer side of the shade. I have had no problems since.

so, did you try "sailkote" on your sunshade?
it seems to me that i will be ordering "sailkote" for this issue
OK, bad news and good news.
Tonight my sunshade was sagging and I noticed that the back clips were not holding the bars anymore.
I took it out and then saw a broken pin up near the front.
I haven't lubed the shade yet, could be why it was broken.
I repaired the pins, put the shade back in the back clips lubed it real well with the McLube and installed it back in the car. It works better than it ever has! easy to open and close with one hand!
