I did get a small spraycan of the McLube SailKote at a marine shop in Moss Landing CA.

I like it! Clean and effective lube for that panoramic shade.

I did use Sailkote successfully (on both the smart sunshade tracks and my mast track and mainsheet horse-and-traveler), but the real end-solution is to request that the smart center replace the shade with the improved version. The improved version is definitely an improvement.

The sc may not have it in stock, but they can order it, and replace it under warranty.

Second that: had mine replaced a week ago and it's like night and day. The old one required some strength and lots of care, whereas the new one slides with one finger. And it's warranty covered, still.

is the "new version" sunshade a new design?

my original sunshade broke, and was replaced with the original 2008 design: fabric on rails with clips that rolls up when opened...pulleys and strings and all that...

...are you describing something different, a redesigned unit?
...or are you describing an original design that functions better with less hassle?

do you have any pictures of the "new version" shade that you can share?

Haven't disected my replacement, but it is definitely more robust and easier to operate.

I have the "new version" also. My original was replaced under warranty after it kept jumping the driver-side track while opening.
The new one seems a tad more sturdier and operates more smoothly. My dealer said they were no longer using the original sunshades and replacement was one of the new batch they received. I've had no problem with it.

This particular post has a comment by "smartette", in which she posted two thumbnail pics of the new design. It's difficult to see any obvious differences from new-style v. old-style, FWIW:

My new sunshade from dealer

the "new shade" in the thumbnail pics above looks like the replacement in my smartmobile. my replacement shade works, and has had no problems for almost a year...and that is an improvement over the original that did not function properly (the one that came with the car at delivery).
